The Polk County Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Wells to the county treasurer position a year ago to fill a vacancy after the death of former county treasurer Mary Maloney. Wells, who has worked in both public and corporate sectors and the military and non-profits, is president of Investing in My Future, a nonprofit organization that provides programs that assist African American children in understanding the value of an education and preparing them to take their rightful place as future leaders, according to its website.
